Having captured the likes of Andy Warhol, Edie Sedgwick and Bob Dylan on camera, Nat Finkelstein became one of the most well known and respected photojournalists of his day. A new Nat Finkelstein exhibition brings together his life's work for a unique show at the Idea Generation Gallery.

Nat Finkelstein exhibition
From One Extreme to the Other is a retrospective that looks back at the diverse portfolio of work that he created from his early days as a student to his final days at the end of 2009. Most famous for his striking collection of photos taken at Andy Warhol's Factory, he also recorded civil rights demonstrations and anti war protests in 60s America.

History in the making
Having been expelled from Brooklyn College where he was studying photography, Nat Finkelstein went onto train under the director of Harper's Bazaar Alexey Brodovitch. Soon afterwards he went onto meet Andy Warhol and take the most celebrated photos of his career, all of which are on show at the Nat Finkelstein exhibition London event.

Other highlights on show at the Nat Finkelstein exhibition, From One Extreme to the Other, include photos from behind the barriers at civil rights and anti war protests, where he captured the true spirit of the students who wanted to make a difference. In contrast to the subjects he shot at the Factory, these people were determined to make a difference, no matter what the cost to themselves. Finkelstein was also no stranger to controversy having been forced to exile himself to the Middle East after a warrant for his arrest came out in America over associations with the Black Panthers.

From pop to punk
Returning to New York in 1982, Finkelstein went onto re-immerse himself in the social extremes that he had always loved. Exploring a new and intrepid culture, he managed the post punk band Khmer Rouge and began to document the dubious goings on at Manhattan's Limelight Club. Images from these times appear alongside other highlights at the Nat Finkelstein exhibition, including his work from publications such as Life, Time, Vogue, Rolling Stone, The Times, The Observer and Harper's & Queen.

From One Extreme to the Other, the Nat Finkelstein exhibition London event takes place from 12pm - 6pm Monday - Friday, and 12pm - 5pm Saturday - Sunday. The exhibition runs from Wednesday 20th January - Saturday 14th February 2010.
