Today I completed the final day of the New River Gym's 90 Day Plan. I've lost 3 stone, 2 lbs & with no hesitation, I've joined the gym for the next year. New River really works. I hadn't done any exercise for 6 years & I've been on every diet available but this is the one that stuck. It all makes sense, is good & honest with no fads or false promises about weight loss. Being a gym-phobic, I was suspicious of the whole friendly, "can do" ethos and money back guarantee but decided to take a chance. Honestly I cannot believe I am a convert but this gym is unlike any other. You won't find a running machine or a poser in designer lycra anywhere - everyone's just normal. The staff really are friendly, helpful and encouraging. What other gym have you gone to where every single member of staff knows your name and what you were talking to them about the last time you were there? The circuit training is actually fun. As every circuit only lasts 40 seconds, just when you can't take any more, it's over on to the next thing. The resistance workouts are challenging but not so much that you never want to come back again. I never felt intimidated, gym members always say hello to each other and even give support. I am naturally rebellious & would self-sabotage on other diets just to show I was in control but this diet puts the onus on you & it made me grow up. There's no "eat what you want" Weight Watchers philosophy. It graduallly teaches you the choices you make create the food issues you need to sort out. The firm but never disapproving weekly food consultations help you to draw your own conclusions about how to break your bad diet cycle in your own way & time. It does take willpower - what doesn't? - but more importantly it teaches you how to take control of your own diet for good rather than hide behind a points or calorie limit structure. It's worked for me & I am a different person. Put your cynicism aside & try it. It will change your life. Wish I'd done it years ago.

I have recently joined New River and am so impressed with it all so far. I love that it's a small enough gym that everyone is friendly and the instructors know everyone's name. The facilities are perfectly suited to the gym, the showers and change area is clean and hairdryers / straighteners are provided. The classes are just what I was after as 30 minutes is achievable within most hectic routines. I love the powerplate classes as with only 4 powerplates you get very personal treatment and are asked at the beginning of each class what areas you'd like to work. The power classes (circuits) are surprisingly difficult as the relentless 40 seconds of machine to cardio for 30 minutes makes your muscles scream and heart race, after just half an hour I feel like I've had a great workout. Would highly recommend this gym to any woman who wants manageable, highly professional, friendly and relaxed personal fitness.

I just joined New River. I won't be using the Power Plates as I suffer Raynaud's Syndrome which would be exacerbated by the vibration. But I'm really looking forward to using the main gym and hopeful that the limited time workout will encourage me to go regularly.

The New River gym is fantastic. I have recently joined the gym and the staff are friendly and approachable and always willing to help. After an introduction I tried a power plate class, which is in a small and intimate studio, which meant great focus and attention from the instructor. After the power plate session I attended a circuit session, which was a great. A combination of machine work outs designed for women and cardio work in short sharp succession means it is impossible to get bored and you have a well rounded work out. Everyone is really friendly and it's a great place!

I really enjoy using the power plate at New River. Power plates are brilliant for toning and shaping your body and increasing your strength and fitness - particularly used in conjunction with some cardio exercise. With the power plate you get maximum effect with minimum time. The trainers at New River are all excellent and have a warm and friendly approach which makes exercising there fun and not at all scary! I would definitely recommend it.

I've always been quite athletic growing up and then I got to a point in life when I realised I never had enough time to play sports or work out, so I became depressed that as I got older my body started to change and I knew the only way I could get it back to the way it used to look was to work out on a regular basis and not now and then as that never really works and you’d only be cheating yourself. I have a 9-5 job and the last thing I want to do after a long day at work is a gruelling 1 hour gym session. I then came across the New River Power plate advert, which at the time I had no idea what a power plate was, I can now tell you it's probably the best machine ever invented (literally) I started with 3 sessions to see how my body would cope as I’ve never worked out on a vibrating machine and I’m not going to lie it is intense but at the same time you feel amazing afterwards, because you know you've done a 30 minute work out which I felt and believe is an equivalent to a gruelling one and half hour in the gym. After only 3 sessions I noticed results in my body and I can now say I am addicted and go at least twice a week. If you're a kind of person like me who hates the gym and hasnt got loads of time to spare to work out this would be ideal for you as it's fun, quick, easy and can give your body huge results not only in shape and size it will also improve your stamina as long as you have of course a balanced diet when committing to these classes.
