Notting Hill Carnival Childrens Day takes place on the first day of the carnival, kicking off London’s biggest street party on Sunday 28th August 2011. Children and families will take to the streets for a day of fun and festivities in West London in true carnival spirit.
A colourful day out
The Notting Hill Carnival is one of the most vibrant events in London, taking place annually in a huge two day party. The first day of the carnival is traditionally Childrens Day, where children and family groups are encouraged to join the party. The day will be packed with costume parades, live music, street performances and more at what is bound to be one of the biggest events of the year. Aimed at kids and families, the event tends to include family attractions and play areas, in addition to special educational events for young ones. As well as all the Caribbean, Nigerian, Chinese and Thai food stalls at the event, there's loads of other things to do in the area too, so if you fancy trying out local venues view our recommended pages:

Traditional fun
Visitors to the carnival can expect traditional Caribbean celebrations in a huge cultural explosion. Steel drums, booming sound systems, floats and dancers will be grooving to a carnival rhythm, as well as traditional costumed performers such as J'Ouvert. The majority of performers on Childrens Day are under 21, and there are traditionally special competitions for kids to take part in. Revel in the sights and sounds of the biggest street party in Europe, regularly attracting hundreds of thousands of partygoers each year.
Bank Holiday Weekend
Notting Hill Carnival Childrens Day is the first day of the carnival, promising an exciting day out during the August Bank Holiday Weekend. With any luck the sun will be shining throughout the day, making for a suitably bright addition to the long weekend. A taste of the Caribbean
If all that walking around leaves you feeling a bit peckish you won’t need to leave the carnival to find something tasty to eat. Food stalls will be selling a variety of Caribbean foods, with favourites including jerk chicken, Jamaican patties and grilled corn on the cob on the menu. Visitors to the carnival can fuel up on the day with authentic Caribbean cuisine to enjoy in the sun.
Make a day of it
Taking place throughout the streets of Notting Hill and surrounding areas the carnival is full of activity and things to explore. The usual mix of live music, dancers and costumed performers will be out in force, creating a lively carnival atmosphere for Londoners of all ages. Notting Hill Carnival Childrens Day features a shorter parade route than in the main carnival and is typically a quieter affair, perfect for families who may not want to get caught up in very busy crowds.
The Notting Hill Carnival takes place from Sunday 28th August - Monday 29th August 2011 in Notting Hill and surrounding areas. Childrens Day is on Sunday 28th August 2011.
Notting Hill Carnival Childrens Day is free to attend. The main parade takes place from 9.30am - 8.30pm, with the J'Ouvert parade taking place from 6am - 9am.
