Noughtie Nightlife at Rich Mix is an exhibition that invites you to take a trip to clubland as it looks back at the last ten years of clubbing fashion in London. With photos taken from some of the most popular and cultish club nights around, this show brings you the fast paced and fashionable face of London nightlife by the people who were there.
Noughtie Nightlife at Rich Mix
Celebrating the trends, feelings, fashions and creativity of the noughties London club scene, the Rich Mix exhibition encapsulates a decade of nightlife as seen by photographers, DJs and fashion gurus. Whether you were there yourself and want to reminisce or simply want to know what kind of crazy things go on at various different clubs, this is a fascinating slice of London nightlife on show for all to see.
Clubbing fashion
Curated Antony Price who is a DJ, photographer and lecturer at the London College of Fashion, one of the main elements of the photos on show at Noughtie Nightlife at Rich Mix is the variation in club fashion. Bringing back to life the power and glamour of the club scene to the viewer, the photos also document the changes in youth culture, through style and attitude. Be it at Nag Nag Nag, Kash Point, Trash, Anti Social, All You Can Eat, Smash and Grab or Boombox, the variety in fashion trends is there to see, as a diverstiy of classes, ethnicities, backgrounds and fashions all merged to influence some of the biggest fashion talent around.
MySpace generation
Cataloguing the trends and styles of the last decade in clubland, it is easy to see the influence of advancing technology and social networking on the London club scene. As well as using the likes of MySpace and Facebook for seeing who was intending to go to which club when, the sites were also used for posting photos of nights out, meaning that everyone could relfect on the clubnight, and dissect it to critique what people wore, who was there and with whom. Capturing the essence of these online communities, Noughtie Nightlife at Rich Mix acts like a giant online profile of the best club nights from the first ten years of the 21st century.
Capturing the moment
Acting as curators of the clubbing fashion scene, Billa Baldwin, Ellis Scott, Matthew Brindle, Thom Will, Rai Royal, Wade Fletcher, Christophger James (weknowhwatyoudidlastnight) and Mr Hartnett amongst others, have all contributed to the exhibition with pictures of high fashion, customised pieces, sportswear and street style. By capturing everyone from those who have gone all out to impress with elaborate costume and self expression, to those that want to follow a functional aesthetic only, the Noughtie Nightlife exhibition catalogues a rich cross section of the fashion world, all of which will be held in the London College of Fashion archives for future generations to marvel at.
Noughtie Nightlife at Rich Mix takes place from 9am - 11pm Monday - Friday, 11am - 11pm Saturday and Sunday, from Thursday 9th September - Saturday 2nd October 2010. Entrance is free.
