Pining for the films from the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival? Fear not, because great gay and lesbian themed films are back in London thanks to the regular Out at the Pictures series at BFI Southbank.
Why you should go
Craving some decent queer cinema before the Lesbian and Gay Film Festival hits London once again? Lucky for you, the BFI Southbank has gay films in the spotlight with their gay and lesbian film season, Out at the Pictures. Focusing on films by and about the gay community, you’ll want to check them out no matter what your sexual orientation.
Don’t miss
Out at the Pictures celebrates some of the best in world gay cinema at the BFI Southbank with films such as Picnic at Hanging Rock, Peter Weir's tender exploration of the theme of romantic friendship between a group of young women, and the impact their later disappearance has on the community they leave behind. The early 2012 programme also features Higher Learning, starring Kristy Swanson and Jennifer Connolly in a tale of a party girl who finds solace in a women's group after falling victim to a sexual assault at a frat party.
Out at the Pictures highlights
Also showing in the upcoming programme is the Canadian film Heartbeats, by actor, writer and director Xavier Dolan. Film fans can also see a documentary on the life and work of avant garde musician Arthur Russell, in what is likely to be another popular addition to the season of gay and lesbian films at BFI Southbank.
