The Outdoor Living Room is part of the London Festival of Architecture and can be seen around town in various locations for the entirety of the festival. Consisting of the kind of furniture that you would expect to see in anyone's front room, the Outdoor Living Room invites you to sit back and chill for a while, as you watch the hustle and bustle of the outdoor world.
With all the home comforts of your average indoor living room, the Outdoor Living Room is enticing Londoners to take a break on the sofa, or maybe read a book on the armchair, whilst still being able to appreciate the fresh air of the outside world. Rather than heading back indoors to relax, the installation is a lure to London Festival of Architecture fans to learn more about the festival and just generally have a bit of a sit down.
Spread out across five hubs of the city, the London Festival of Architecture will be moving the Outdoor Living Room around throughout the festival giving everyone in London the chance to appreciate the colourful furniture. Decorated in the festival's signature pink colour, the armchair, sofa, bookself and lamps will be plain to see as they are placed in different spots around the city, where they invite those in need of a rest to come and sit down for a while.
Made from plywood, the Outdoor Living Room furniture is not quite the kind of thing you maybe looking for to fill your own living room, but it is practically suited to being outside. While some of the sofas carry a miniature exhibition of location specific writing by the staff and students at the London Metropolitan University, others contain pieces of information about the architecture festival, including maps that will show you where you can locate other cool installations and festival events.
The Outdoor Living Room will be in various parts of London until the end of the London Architecture Festival on Sunday 20th July 2008.
