The Peter Pan Christmas Cup Race is coming back to Hyde Park for another year, for a morning of festive swimming on Christmas Day 2011.
An outdoor swim on Christmas Day
Taking an outdoor dip first thing in the morning might not sound like the most enjoyable winter activity, but come Christmas Day that is exactly what a collection of festive swimmers will be doing, at the Peter Pan Christmas Cup Race in Hyde Park.
Seasonal swimming in Hyde Park
The Peter Pan Christmas Cup Race is an annual Christmas event that sees swimmers take to the water in Hyde Park, competing for the Peter Pan Cup. Originally donated by legendary author JM Barrie, the Peter Pan Cup is a prestigious festive accolade. See Serpentine Lido club members happily sacrifice warm, dry beds on Christmas morning at this unique London event.
Show some support
Although you can’t just turn up and take part on the day spectators, are welcome to watch the action from the shore and show some support for those brave enough to take a wintry dip. With waters as low as four degrees Celsius you can be assured that the event is a shock to the system for participating swimmers.
London history
The Peter Pan Christmas Cup Race swim is a truly historic London event, stemming back a number of years and continuing to thrill participants and spectators alike. Join in the fun for 2011 and make it a Christmas to remember in the picturesque setting of Hyde Park.
The Peter Pan Christmas Cup Race takes place on Sunday 25th December 2011 at the Serpentine Lido, Hyde Park, on the south bank of the lake close to the Serpentine Cafe (the old pavilion). The event begins at 9am.
To enter you must be a member of the Serpentine Lido Club and must have completed the entire Winter Series. Please note: You cannot join the swimming club on the day and swim in the race. Spectators are welcome to watch for free.
