Phaedra tickets are now available to see Helen Mirren take to the National Theatre stage as the iconic theatre begins a season of plays from the cannon of classics. First produced in 1677, Phaedra tickets will enable London theatre fans to see Helen Mirren in Jean Racine’s classic tragedy, updated by acclaimed poet Ted Hughes.

Iconic lead
Those lucky enough to get their hands on Phaedra tickets will be treated to Mirren taking the lead role in a play based on a Greek myth about a queen falling in love with her stepson while her husband is absent. Other famous Phaedra leads have included Glenda Jackson, Diana Rigg and Clare Higgins so expect your Phaedra tickets to showcase one of our most talented stars in an illustrious and demanding role.

Return of Helen Mirren
Phaedra will be Helen Mirren’s first appearance on the stage in six years, in which time she picked up the Best Actress Oscar for her lead role in The Queen, and cemented her reputation as Britain’s most talented actress. Mirren will be directed by the National Theatre artistic director Nicholas Hytner, and will also star alongside Margaret Tyzack in what looks set to be a great line up both behind the scenes and on the stage.

National Theatre season
Phaedra will be the first play in a season that will see the National Theatre return to classics after a year’s excursion into newer works. Other National Theatre projects for 2009 include Brecht’s Mother Courage and Her Children, Shakespeare’s All’s Well That Ends Well, Kit Marlowe’s Dido, Queen of Carthage and JB Priestley’s Time and the Conways. Phaedra looks to be one of the real highlights however, thanks in no small part to Helen Mirren taking the lead role.

NT Live Tickets
As part of the National Theatre season of plays, the theatre will be running cinema screenings on selected dates. Performances will be screened live to over 60 cinemas across the UK and 200 across the world enabling theatre fans to see shows wherever they may be in the world.
