Taking place on and around a giant spaceship on the South Bank, Planet Lem at National Theatre begins the 2011 Watch This Space festival in spectacular style.

Science fiction spectacle
Inspired by the writings of celebrated science fiction author Stanislaw Lem, Planet Lem at National Theatre is an outdoor theatre production by Polish company Teatr Biuro Podrozy. Expect an avant garde theatrical experience, accentuated by lighting effects, multimedia projections and epic sets.

Giant spaceship
Using characters from Lem's original fiction, the stage production of Planet Lem at National Theatre features humans as well as androids and supercomputers in an unsettling future dystopia. The play depicts a world in which humans live in an illusory stage of well-being, aided by artificial intelligence and hallucinogenic drugs. However, the arrival of a man from the past threatens to tear down this false paradise forever.

Planet Lem

Stanislaw Lem
Perhaps best known as the author of Solaris, Stanislaw Lem was in fact a prolific writer of science fiction, philosophy and satire. With its South Bank location, giant spaceship set and light effects, the nightly performances of Planet Lem at National Theatre are bound to be a memorable experience.

Planet Lem at National Theatre takes place from 10pm, Friday 1st July - Saturday 2nd July 2011. Admission is free.
