Giving musicians the chance to take part in an unusual improvised musical session, the Playing the Building Jam Along concerts take place by the David Byrne installation at the Roundhouse.

David Byrne music installation
The Roundhouse is playing host to an unusual arts installation by David Byrne throughout August 2009, in the form of an old pump organ that is connected to the architecture of the Victorian venue via a series of pipes and tubes. Visitors can make the building come to life with rattles, whistles, and groans by pressing the keys on the organ, but if you want to take part in a group session inspired by the installation, then you can always contribute to the Playing the Building Jam Along events on selected Thursdays.

Playing the Building Jam Along
If you're interested in taking part in the Jam Along events at the Roundhouse, then here's how it works; just buy a general admission ticket for the music installation and bring along the acoustic instrument of your choice. No drum kits are allowed, but small hand held percussion instruments are fine. Roundhouse musicians such as Orphy Robinson, Leon Mitchner, and DJ Walde will conduct the group of musicians on the night to create an improvised piece of music inspired by the Playing the Building installation.

Events at the Roundhouse
The Playing the Building Jam Along sessions are just one example of the events taking place at the Roundhouse that tie into the David Byrne music installation. Visitors can buy a combined ticket to that allows them to fill up on barbecue food and drink after they've had a go on the organ's keyboard, and if you're really on a budget, there's also the Pay What You Can on Mondays special offer.

Pay What You Can Mondays at Playing the Building

The Playing the Building Jam Along sessions run from 7pm - 8pm on Thursday 13th August, Thursday 20th August, and Thursday 27th August 2009. To take part in the event, simply purchase a ticket for the day you want to attend. To buy tickets in advance, call 0844 482 8008.
