See the life size polar bear ice sculpture at Trafalgar Square when the Bear in the Square art installation opens to the public.

Bear in the Square
Produced by the not for profit organisation Ice Bear Project in partnership with the World Wildlife Fund, the polar bear ice sculpture will gradually melt over a period of ten days to reveal a bronze skeleton. The giant ice sculpture is bound to appeal to kids, families and animal lovers of all ages during its exhibition on the Trafalgar Square Northern Terrace.

Christmas exhibition
While visitors to the polar bear ice sculpture exhibition at Trafalgar Square are sure to enjoy viewing and touching the installation, the Bear in the Square project also has a serious message. It's thought that as few as 20,000 to 25,000 polar bears are left in the wild, and their numbers are increasingly threatened by climate change and global warming.

Fleeting show
Art lovers have just ten days to catch sight of the polar bear ice sculpture at Trafalgar Square before it completely melts away, leaving only a puddle of water and a bronze skeleton. Visitors are invited to get hands on with the display and touch the melting sculpture to shape and change the display, as a symbol of the human impact of climate change on the environment and other species.

Bear in the Square, the polar bear ice sculpture at Trafalgar Square, opens for ten days from Friday 11th December 2009. The exhibition is free to attend.
