An American Pop Art exhibition London event takes place at Olyvia Fine Art this autumn as works by several major artists go on show. With Pop Art style works from the 1970s - 1980s forming the exhibition, this is your chance to see the likes of Keith Harring and Andy Warhol on display together.
Pop Art exhibition London
Many people tend to think of Pop Art as a specifically sixities phenomena, but after the initial hit of contraversial artwork from Andy Warhol and his friends, the school continued to grow and develop, gathering more influence and strength as it went. Showcasing work from the latter end of the movement allows visitors to see exactly how Pop Art had developed and shed some insight into what artists like Warhol had done since helping initiate the movement.
Andy Warhol
Warhol was one of the early intiators of Pop Art and became best known for his paintings of Campell soup tins and screen prints of Marilyn Monroe. A popular motiff in his work was money, and he returned to this motiff with his work The Dollar Sign during the eighties. Included in the Pop Art exhibition alongside other pieces such as Chanel from 1985, fans of his work will be keen to see this and more of his less well known artworks.
Key artists
Several key artists are on show at the Pop Art exhibition London event asides from Andy Warhol, who is seen by some as the Godfather of Pop Art. Keith Harring, whose graffiti style paintings depict outline characters in bright, flat colours, with symbolic lines around them suggestive of movement, features his diptych Pyramid in the exhibition. Also included are works by Frank Stella, Robert Rauschenberg, Tom Wesselmann and Robert Longo, all of which represent the mix of use of mass culture imagery, flat and unmixed colour, and mechanical mass production style techniques associated with the Pop Art movement.
Sold Out, the American Pop Art exhibition London event takes place from 10am - 6pm Monday - Friday, Wednesday 22nd September - Friday 19th November 2010 at Olyvia Fine Art. Entrance is free.
