Poulters Company Pancake Race

Dozens of teams representing the livery companies of Guildhall will be running and tossing pancakes at the traditional Poulters Company Pancake Race this Shrove Tuesday.

Honoured tradition
Spectators are welcome to cheer on their favourite teams at the Poulters Company Pancake Race, with everyone from carriage drivers and butchers to chartered accountants and glovers competing for glory. Heats lead up to four separate finals, where teams of four will battle it out for a prize copper pancake pan. There's also a wooden spoon race for the underdogs.

Fancy dress
Each of the Livery Companies taking part in the Poulters Company Pancake Race will be running in their regalia or in fancy dress, so expect plenty of colourful costumes on show. Many of the companies bring their own special contribution to the event, with the Gunmakers starting each race off with a bang, the Clockmakers keeping time and the Poulters supplying the eggs essential for any good pancake.

The Poulters Company Pancake Race takes place in Guildhall Yard from 12pm, Tuesday 21st February 2012, and is free to watch.
