Celebrate the Power of Making at V&A Museum with a fasincating exhibition focusing on the varities of craft within the art world. Featuring pieces made by amateurs and professionals, as well as those created out of necessity, this is your chance to see the traditional image of craft turned on its head.

Power of Making at V&A
100 different objects are included in the Power of Making exhibition, which covers all possible angles for the creative craftsperson. Showcasing a variety of unusual or inspired items, the exhibition invites you to explore the world of the maker and see just what it is that urges people to get crafty with their hands.

Creative craft
Despite the current resurgence of interest in a variety of traditional crafts, many long practised skills are being lost to the speed and capacity of modern technological advancements. At the Power of Making at V&A Museum you can get to grips with a selection of old style hand crafts, and examine contemporary attitudes to making and creating.

Beyond the exhibition
Beyond necessity, self and expression and innovation, crafting is a pasttime which encourages social participation as well as cultural definition. All these aspects are celebrated and scrutinised as part of the exhibition, as you see how the makers attempt to push the traditional skills in new directions. By taking several exhibits out of the exhibition showroom and putting them on display next to their counterparts around the museum, visitors will be able to compare and contrast new and old skills, and decide for themselves what the future of craft making will be.

The Power of Making at V&A takes place from Tuesday 6th September 2011 - Monday 2nd January 2012.
