The 2011 Press Photographers Year Exhibition hits the National Theatre once again this summer as the photographer's photo competition comes to a conclusion. With entries from some of the best and brightest talents in British photography, this is your chance to see up close and personal some stunning images, all taken in the name of providing images for the press.

Press Photographers Year exhibition
Back at the National Theatre's Lyttelton Theatre foyer for the sixth year running, the vast space is the perfect location for showcasing the selection of amazing images captured throughout 2010. With categories including News, Photo Essay, Sports, Portraits and of course the overall winning image, the exhibition is crammed full of photos that will grab your attention in ways which only still images can. Having recieved around 150,000 visitors in it's very first year, the exhibition can now expect over 250,000 people through its doors during its run.

Cream of the crop
Over 7,000 images were submitted to the competition and only around 100 have made it through to the final Press Photographers Year exhibition, with sixteen lucky photographers having their images graced with winning titles. Representing the extraordinary breadth and variety of images across the country, the exhibition showcases the absolute cream of the crop, with all the winning photos standing out clearly from the crowd.

Exhibition highlight
No doubt the major highlights of the 2010 Press Photographers Year exhibition was the selection of winning images from competition, and amongst those was last year's overall winner of the title Photograph of the Year, David Beber and his picture of Colonel Gaddafi. Taken through bullet proof glass, which reflects Libyan buildings opposite, Gaddafi seems to rise ghost-like out of the roof of the wobbly buildings, becoming gradually more solid, while the figures behind him remain ethereal and distant.

The Press Photographers Year exhibition takes place from 9.30am - 11pm Monday - Saturday, (open on selected Sundays throughout the summer) from Saturday 16th July - Sunday 4th September 2011 at National Theatre. Entrance is free.
