The Prince Charles Cinema is unique in that it’s the only second-run cinema in London, meaning that it shows films that have finished their run on general release, as well as popular cult classics, such as Taxi Driver or A Clockwork Orange. It also has one other huge thing in its favour – the price. Even at the recently-bumped-up rate of £3.50 a ticket, it’s still the best value in London, with a terrific location to boot – just off the north side of Leicester Square.

A recent revamp means that the decent-sized auditorium has been done over in ‘blood-red’ décor, with seats to match. Once famous for having the worst seats in London, it now boasts comfortable high-backed seats with plenty of leg-room, both downstairs and in the balcony section. Popular among students, it has an agreeably ‘lived-in’ atmosphere to it, which befits its second-run status. It has a bar on the lower floor, selling bottled drinks only, and the box office also houses the more traditional concession stand, serving popcorn, sweets, ice cream and soft drinks.

The sound quality in the auditorium is generally good, though if you decide to go to either Singalonga-Sound-Of-Music or Rocky Horror Night, you shouldn’t expect to be able to hear the film throughout: loud participation is expected and dressing-up as nuns etc is positively encouraged!

Finally, membership is well-worth getting, as it entitles you to a discount of £1 at all times. Further details can be found at www.princecharlescinema.com
