Dear Customers,

Alex Proud here again. Thanks for taking the time to post comments as it is really interesting to see what people think and I always want to improve the place.

1) Loos and getting from one room to another. This has now ended as there are loo blocks (clean and attended) at both ends. I have not seen a queue for the loo for a long time now as we invested £100 000 in putting the new block in.
Getting from one room to another is now much more simple as with a new fire exit we do not have the old fire limits on some rooms (now higher) and so we don’t have to stop people coming in at such a low level. In theory this should not happen again.

2) Staff. Most nights I get nothing but compliments on our staff and I see the size of their tips at the end of the night and it seems to reflect this. But i will re double our efforts here.

3) Front door. Ditto and will again try harder to make it more friendly, I agree front doors should be non pretentious.

4) Prices are average for London and we now have a Bud Ice on for £3 and in New year will do student prices on Mon - Wed nights.

5) Gallery. The shows change every two months and are well reviewed in the press. This is something you either like or you don’t, sorry!

6) We NEVER stop people coming when we are not full. Below I seem to get told off when there is no queue and again when it is too long! It’s a simple function of if we are full or not and I hate people having to wait to get in.

7) I hope we are still around in a few years as I enjoy running the place and we try very hard to keep our game high. Not every night will please every person, but we do try our very best and will be announcing lots of new nights for the spring.

8) We have refurbished all the stables and I hope they look a lot better now.

9) We have seating for around 350 people contrary to what was said below.

Again always feel free to e mail me with complaints as I do listen and want to improve. Thank you for c

I went to Proud Galleries last Thursday for one of their RIF RAF nights. My mate had told me about it and said that because of the cool, new bands they have on that they attract a really friendly crowd. Anyway, so i went down to check it out and had an amazing time. Everyone was happy and dancing and enjoying themselves until 2 in the morning! And that was on a school night. I've heard that other nights aren't that great and that there can be some tossers around (sometimes even the staff) but I can't recommend RIF RAF highly enough. They've got thecocknbullkid playing at the end of november. I will definitely be going back, if only on the last thursday of every month. At least you get it right once a month Mr Proud!xxx

Unfortunately now every person who works there is a tosser. The female 'promoters' on the door are rude, offensive and bitter that they are getting on a bit and don't have a proper job yet! The bar staff are also complete stuck up idiots confused of their place in life. Prices are a joke esp now as entry has been hiked up(and they wonder why it never fills up till about 11.30 and why the bar Qs are so low!) What Alex Proud needs to understand is this...its Camden and there are plenty of nice bars and Proud galleries needs to up its game. People dont mind spending money for good drinks but being shafted by rude door staff will turn people away. Theres no seating in Proud so you cant expect people to turn up before 10!!!!After a good summer its lost its edge which has seen an older and more male dominated venue. it will be a truly no-place in a few years....

Went on Friday, was really really impressed. Arrived at 11, in straight away. Drinks are fair price, good crowd - no posh nob ends and no scum, Door staff seemed nice altho i can see how peeps may find then non-bouncer staff pretentiousy which is a huge problem in clubs all over London. For me what can make or break a club's rep utation is the people on the door. If you have that twaty stuck up bitch with her clip-board being wanky then its diff not to have a bad night.
The place is getting a big reputation around north london atm but I just hope is stays as it is and keeps away hiring clip-board wielding tosspots!

I was expecting something different.
I don't know why. You felt like you were in an indie music video with everyone pouting. The bar staff were rude and pretentious. The drinks were very expensive! £3.50 or something for a bottle of perona!

To use the loo (which is on the other end of the place which by the way is huge) you had to queue to get out of one room and then queue again for the actual toilets and then queue to get back in to the room you were in originally. (This must have changed by now I hope) The fact that you had to queue for ages to get into one of the rooms to find that not only was it empty the music would be enough to send you to sleep!

The gallery is not really interesting either just generic black and white photos of cult musicians and other famous people... The same type of generic photos you'd see in a pub maybe but they don't go round calling it a gallery.

A few good thing were the bands they had lined up. They were actually good.

I think I understand what they're doing I've just seen better art and better atmosphere at union art gallery and warehouse art and music parties.

Uh, where do YOU go clubbing in London if you think £3.50 for a bottle of beer is expensive? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. And yes, the loos aren't great but for God sake, I've never been to a busy club with particularly nice toilets and anyone who's ever been to a festival will know that sometimes it's worth a wait when you have such great bands and music.

I thought the gallery was cool - I don't know, maybe your expectations were overblown? But, for me, seeing amazing photos of some of music's most influential artists is not to be looked down upon.

Personally, I loved Proud. It's not as pretentious as most of the clubs across London and there are some incredible nights on now. Every time I've been - and I'm a regular - it's been a great night out. - Report

I'm glad your experience was great.
Mine wasn't. This is a place where people the right to write down their experiences... express their opinions.
I have actually been to clubs in London where the drinks aren't that expensive. If you think it's not that expensive then that's fine for you and anyone else who can.

I have been in places where the loos are diabolically bad both in festivals and clubs and I'm used to that.
The loos here are nice it's just the queuing that is amazing. As I said before the whole madness of trying to get out of one room and then to another to go across that and through the long stable bar area with the human traffic (Which is unavoidable it being a club so that's understandable) and then to queue again is insane! That is my opinion. If they have loos on the other side too now then fair enough ignore this. otherwise If you think that's fine then that's great.

I don't look down on photos of influential icons at all they are good photos. I was expecting different types of art you expect to see in a galleries or even photos done by local photographers in the area. If I was wrong to think that then fine but it's my opinion and my expectations and I can write that down here.

I personally didn't enjoy it and I did find it pretentious.
If you didn't then that's cool for you and for anyone else with your opinions.
You've written why you enjoy it so much well that's great!

Anyone who reads this will see two points of view.

Lol, you guys are hilarious! I kinda agree with both of you – the queue is undeniably sucky but the toilets aren’t disgusting, which is a bonus in my book. The gallery could have been utilised more but it’s pretty cool. I do think that the drinks can’t be called expensive – I’m just a junior designer but even I can afford a couple of drinks at Proud – lets face it, anyone living in London has to get used to a certain level of price. I think its unfair to call it pretentious, I chatted to total strangers – the toilet queue is great for that lol! Although I wouldn’t go every week like the other dude, I will definately go again. - Report

Surely you staff standing in the cold doesn't give them the right to be rude ???

I visited proud on Saturday night. I used to be a regular last summer, after visiting recently I was hugely disappointed. I had to queue for an hour and half even though we were on a guest list...it was the worst experience of my life! I found the
poeple with the guest lists highly pretensious thinking they were the epitome of cool. They stood there laughing and drinking whilst we had to stand a queue for a ridiculous time in the cold. When I got inside the club, there was so much space...so god knows why it was one in one out! Such a shame that this club has become highly pretentious like the rest of the west end clubs.

I am so sorry to read the above! We really pride ourselves on being a friendly club and try not be the typical nasty place London does too well. But also we have a capcity of 700 and that is set by the council not us. Think about it, we would hardly stop you coming in if we could help it would we? You are right the venue could hold a lot more, but the council wont let us and that is out of our hands. Also if you arrive before 10pm you will always get in fast, you must have come post 11pm and I hate to point it out but sadly most places are at capcity at this stage in London and can only let one in when one goes out. This is simply the law. as for our staff, yes they stand outside all night until 3am in the cold getting shouted out so of course they have a drink and a laugh, isnt that simply human? So whilst i totally hate you not enjoying your visit I dont think it is in anyway our fault or we can change the laws of the land! Do try to arrive before 10pm and you will get in within 5 mins on 99% of nights. I hope you do come again and have a better night out.

Yours

You would think that Mr Proud would listen to all the comments on the rude door staff and hire some new ones instead of defending their clearly unacceptable behaviour.... - Report

Great venue, rudest door-people ever. It's amazing how wearing a badge can make someone so abusive. Watch out for one bouncer in particular; no way for reasoning, he makes drill sergeant Hartman from Full Metal Jacket look like a pussy. I've been shocked on so many occasions now by this guy's behavior. Please lovely Proud-Gallery management, sack this guy so we can enjoy your parties without being abused on our way in. It's truly unnecessary... - Report
