Bored of the usual music festivals? Do you prefer a pint down your local to raving with 30,000 strangers? Then Pub in the Park London may appeal. A festival with a twist, it’s celebrating the Great British pub. Expect live music, fringe theatre, dance troops and stand-up comics as well as traditional pub games.

What To Expect
Pub in the Park London is a far more eclectic festival than many being held in London this year and aims to appeal to people who may not consider themselves the festival ‘type’. On offer is live music, dance troops – from street dance to Morris dancing – stand-up comics and a series of competitions centred around traditional pub games. These include a battle of the bands, darts tournament, Texas Hold ‘em Poker and pool competitions.

Classic Pub Games
For each of the pub game competitions – namely the battle of the bands, darts tournament, Texas Hold ‘em Poker and pool competitions – you can sign up for entry via your local participating pub. If your local isn’t signed up then it’s a quick and easy process, just get them to call 01959 567831 for an entry form. Landlords can enter their pub champion who will then be in with a chance to win some big prizes at the festival. Prizes include a holiday for two in Malta, a trip for two to Las Vegas or tickets to the Dutch Open of the 2010 World Darts Cup.

The Festival Set-Up
The Pub in the Park London Festival will comprise several areas, each dedicated to what makes British pubs great. For example, a pub grub demonstration area will allow festival goers to sample pub food – from exceptional gastro pub cuisine to every day grub you find at your local. The Great British barbecue zone is a celebration of our love of charred food whenever the sun shines, although it’s likely to be a lot better than the blackened sausages you rustle up in your back garden. There are also cask ale, world beer, cider and even wine tastings going on throughout the day. If you want to bring your kids along then there’s a child-friendly kid zone and for the big kids among us there’s the pub games area, celebrating the country’s favourite pub games.

What Will It Cost Me?
Ticket prices for Pub in the Park London aren’t as high as those of many of this year’s more expensive London festivals. Entry to some of the pub games such as the darts, poker and pool competitions or the battle of the bands cost £10 per person for an entry pack.
