A two day long performance of Quicksilver at Tate Modern takes place in May to mark as part of the gallery's 10th birthday celebrations. Featuring dancers from the Cholmondeleys Dance Company, the performance is your chance to witness a unique showcase of dance that flows throughout the spaces of the gallery, across the whole weekend.

Quicksilver at Tate Modern
Created by the Cholmondeleys Dance Company the Quicksilver dance is an unusual live performance piece that will see 30 different performers creating miniature shows around the gallery. Devised and performed by the professionals along with several local young people, the dance will become an integral part of the gallery space over the birthday weekend, with performers appearing in the distance, glimsped down corridors, or taking fleeting steps in the spaces between the art.

Cholmondeleys
The guys behind the dance extravaganza Quicksilver at Tate Modern may have a long and unpronounceable name (it's actually said Chumleys) but they also have a long and impressive dance history, with artistic director Lea Anderson having been in the business of creating performances for the company for over 25 years. They have performed in venues all over London from the Royal Vauxhall Tavern to the Tate Modern and now will be seen by hundreds and thousands more people in the galleries as the birthday celebrations take place.

As the Tate Modern turns 10 on Wednesday 12th May, the whole of the gallery and most importantly its world famous turbine hall will be crammed with celebrating people, wishing the gallery a very happy birthday. Alongside the performance of Quicksilver at Tate Modern, visitors can enjoy a free festival of experimental and creative art, live music and DJs in the evening, and even a special birthday parade.

The performance of Quicksilver at Tate Moden takes place from 10am - 10pm Saturday 15th May and from 10am - 6pm Sunday 16th May 2010. Entrance is free.
