A Rachel Whiteread drawings exhibition takes place at Tate Britain this year as the first female winner of the Turner Prize exhibits some of her rarely seen pieces on paper.

Rachel Whiteread: Drawings
An exhibition that will no doubt draw a great deal of attention from the art community and from her fans, the Rachel Whiteread drawings exhibition shows works created by the artist who is more renowned for her large scale sculptures and installations, than her drawings. Despite drawing having always played a major part in the conception and development of her art, this is one of the first exhibitions to concentrate solely on this method of production.

Unique opportunity
As most of the works on show in the Rachel Whiteread drawings exhibition have never before been seen in a public gallery, this is could be your only chance to see this unique artwork. Featuring collages and drawings that highlight the creative process behind her sculptures, the works on paper provide a much more personal feel to the art. Combining familiar themes such as texture, surface and voids, those who know and admire Whiteread's art will be thrilled to see the rarely exhibited pieces.

Turner Prize winner
Rachel Whiteread was the very first woman to win the coveted Turner Prize in 1993 with her concrete cast of the inside of Victorian terrace in East London. Entitled simply House, it was exhibited on the site of the original house, but was demonlished by the LBC the following year. Taking an opposing view of her monumental sculptures which are mostly put together by a team of fabricators, the pieces included in the Rachel Whiteread Drawings exhibition are intimate and delicate examples of her art, which nevertheless share common ground with her more famous installations.

The Rachel Whiteread: Drawings exhibition takes place from 10am - 5.50pm, Wednesday 8th September 2010 - Sunday 16th January 2011.

Tickets are £10.00 or £8.00 - £9.00 for concessions.
