The Real Van Gogh exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts is set to be one of the biggest exhibitions in London this year. Covering a huge part of the artists life and work, The Real Van Gogh exhibition is a must see show for all art fans.

Real Van Gogh
The exhibition on Vincent Van Gogh on show at the RA is the first major collection of his work to be seen in the UK for the best part of 50 years. Showing over 60 of his large colourful paintings alongside drawings and personal letters, the Real Van Gogh invites you to step into the world of the artist and see just what he was thinking as he created those famous images.

Letters and sketches
While many exhibition focus on the finished articles, this show at Royal Academy gives visitors an insight into the real Van Gogh in an exhibition that puts his letters and preliminary sketches alongside his paintings. Included in the Real Van Gogh exhibition are correspondence from Van Gogh to his friends and brother, highlighting the paintings he was working on a the time and talking about his life. Giving the show a distinctly personal edge, you can also see early sketches and ideas for future works that would turn into some of the paintings included in the exhibition.

Famous paintings
As anyone who has ever seen the Sunflowers hanging at the National Gallery will tell you, the paintings by Vincent Van Gogh are instantly recognisable. Included in the Real Van Gogh exhibition are several major works that will thrill fans to be able to see in the flesh. Self Portrait as an Artist, The Yellow House and Vincent's Chair with His Pipe are all on show and feature alongside several other famous paintings by the artist.

Short lived talent
Despite his tragically short life, Vincent Van Gogh was a prolific artist who managed to create over 800 paintings and around 1,200 drawings in his lifetime. Challenging the view that he was a drepressed and erratic man, the combination of his letters and artwork in the Real Van Gogh exhibition will enlighten visitors to his sensitive and dedicated nature. Having been mostly self taught, Van Gogh painted and drew with a great passion to express his own version of what he saw around him. The stunning paintings, such as Still Life with Onions, accompanied by his intelligent and thoughtful letters make for a fascinating exhibition.

The Real Van Gogh exhibition at Royal Academy of Arts takes place 10am to 5.30pm, from Saturday 23rd January - Sunday 18th April 2010. Late night openings take place on Friday until 10pm.

Standard adult tickets cost £12.00; concessions are available. Tickets for those on income support and for children aged 12 - 18 cost £4.00, children aged 8 - 11 cost £3.00, while kids under 7 go free.
