Celebrate the festive season beneath the glow of the Regent Street Christmas lights, switched on during 20th November 2007 by none other than you!
Dazzling Lights in Regent StreetThis year’s Regent Street Christmas lights are sponsored by Nokia to celebrate the imminent arrival of the Nokia flagship store at 240 Regent Street. This year's Christmas lights will follow a theme titled UNITY and will interact with shoppers throughout the festive season.
The lights have been created to respond to shoppers' movements so for the first time Londoners in Regent Street at 6pm on 20th November will be responsible for switching on the Regent Street Christmas lights. Shoppers can meet festive entertainers at either the north or the south end of Regent Street and then walk together to switch the lights on. Visitors are advised to meet at these points at 5.45pm.
Star appearances at Regent StreetThis year Londoners are the stars of the show at the Regent Street Christmas lights. The fourteen eyecatching 3D light clusters will illuminate as shoppers walk beneath them and during the run up to Christmas the Regent Street Christmas lights will constantly change their festive formation as they respond to data provided by motion cameras for the number of shoppers in the street as well as responding to environmental factors such as wind speed, weather and sunlight levels.
Regent Street Christmas Lights 2007The Regent Street lights will be an ongoing Christmas event in themselves. Each of the fourteen clusters of light consist of an opaque large sphere in the centre surrounded by twenty four smaller spheres. This year's lights will also have the all-important green credentials as each of the spheres contains a low energy LED core and teccies will love the fact that they operate like a series of pixels meaning that they can be individually programmed. All non-teccies need to know is that they are constantly changing and look stunning!
Eco-friendly Christmas cheer100% recyclable, the LEDs are far better than traditional light bulbs, requiring a fifth of the energy they do. As with all of the West End Christmas lights, the Regent Street lights are carbon offset through PURE, the first UK registered charity dedicated to combating climate change by carbon offsetting.
