Regent Street Festival

When

12pm - 8pm, Sunday 7th September 2008

Where

Regent Street and Heddon Street

Whats On
The Regent Street Festival has an eccentric British theme for 2008, with a number of spectacular coming to Central London for a massive street party. Regent Street and Heddon Street will be alive with activity in September including quality dining, music, dance and more. A series of events will also be taking place throughout the day to help you gear up for a full on party.

Join the party at Regent Street
From 12pm – 8pm on the first Sunday in September Regent Street will be closed to traffic and transformed into a huge street party. A feast of live entertainment and special events will be on the menu throughout the day, with plenty to keep the crowds busy on the day. Expect workshops, puppet shows, delicious food and fascinating entertainment - certainly enough to keep you busy all day long.

A taste of Britain
A selection of British regions will be showcased at the festival, bringing a taste of the whole of the UK to Regent Street. From North to the South and back again, the Regent Street Festival 2008 will bring the very best of quintessentially British culture to London, in festive, vibrant style. A special pop up Absolut Ice Bar will be serving up cocktails alongside the ice sculptures, to give you a delicious taste of the British winter. Try an Absolut Emerald Fizz, an Absolut Canary Diamond or an Absolut Luscious Lazuli for a treat with kick.

Music, dance and live entertainment
Festival highlights this year include marching bands, fanfare trumpeteres and pipe bands, all of which will bring a different taste of Britain to the proceedings. A range of cover bands will be performing some of your favourite popstars songs, and boy band Avenue of X Factor fame will be getting the crowds going later on in the day. 2008 will also see a fantastic production of Hamlet from the Factory Theatre in 5 different locations. A very modern production, this version encourages the audience to bring their own props. If all that activity leaves you feeling peckish, there will be plenty of traditional British food available at the Regent Street restaurants just waiting to serve up some delicious goodies. Tasty.

British talent
More entertainment will be coming your way from the guitar of Jay Picton, an up and coming singer songwriter. Jay is about to release his first album, and you and the rest of Regent Street can hear him live on the day of the festival as he transforms plays live. There will also be a chance to catch a film premiere as William Archer's Regent Street film screens at the Apple Store from 1pm onwards. Art fans aren't left out of the mix either as the exhibition by Barbara Chandler, Love London, goes on show at Habitat.

Take the party shopping
A number of Regent Street stores will be getting into the spirit of things for the festival, opening their doors to the fun and festivities. Expect in-store entertainment, food and drink tastings, special promotions, fashion shows and competitions at a variety of high street shops. If you're after something authentic then there will be plenty of market stalls selling an impressive selection of design work, beadwork and embroided items.

50th Anniversary
Lego will be celebrating their 50th birthday at the Regent Street Festival this year, with toys from the past 50 years on display. All kinds of fun and exciting Lego themed activities will keep the kids entertained, and for a donation of £1.00 children can add to a giant Lego mosaic that will gradually be completed throughout the day, with the proceeds going towards the National Autistic Society.

During the Regent Street Festival, Regent Street will be closed to all traffic between Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus underground stations.

The Regent Street Festival 2008 takes place at Regent Street on Sunday 7th September. Events run from 12pm – 8pm and are free to attend.
