Spend a Sunday exploring the outdoors and sampling free food courtesy of the Regents Canal tasting trail. Loads of restaurants along the canal are taking part in the Yours To Taste Regents Canal festival, from Shoreditch all the way to Limehouse Basin. All you need to do is grab a map and get on the trail.

How it works
Pick up a fold-out map from any of the participating venues, then simply stop by the restaurants for your free samples, or tasters. All the restaurants are located along the Regents Canal, so just head into one of the highlighted venues, show them your map and you’ll get your free taster, a sample of what they have to offer. After each place you’ve been to your map will be marked, so you won’t be able to try out the venues more than once.

Tasting Trail restaurants
There are 16 different restaurants taking part in the Regents Canal tasting trail, featuring everything from acclaimed restaurants to little cafes and delis. Restaurants include the environmentally friendly Water House, Broadway Market’s La Vie En Rose and Victoria Park’s Pavilion Cafe. You’ll also have the chance to stop by the Sandwich Barge, a boat that moves up and down the canal – if you see it be sure to flag it down.

Other entertainment
Whilst you’re exploring the Regents Canal tasting trail you’ll be able to walk along to live music courtesy of the River Rat Pack. The band will be playing on the roof of a barge that’s travelling down the canal during the festival, so you won’t have to worry about staying in one place to catch the performance.

Experience Regents Canal
The Yours To Taste Regents Canal tasting trail event gives you the opportunity to explore along the canal, not just by sampling the different restaurants but also exploring along the canal. The route runs from the Water House on Orsman Road all the way through to Narrow Street in Limehouse, giving you ample occasions to enjoy the (hopefully) sunny summer weather and see the sights of East London.

The Regents Canal tasting trail takes place from noon – 4pm on Sunday 23rd August 2009.

To claim your tasters to the event you’ll need to pick up a fold-out guide, which are available from the participating venues and the British Waterways information tent, located on the towpath outside the Mile End Park ecology centre.
