Regents Park was landscape designed by renowned architect John Nash, and has the largest outdoor sports area in London. Known as the Jewel in the Crown it covers some 197 hectares.
Regent's Park is the largest grass area for sports in central London and features an open air theatre, the London Zoo and a healthy selection of cafes and restaurants. The park originates with Henry VIII, who appropriated the land for hunting.
The park boasts the famous Open Air Theatre, bandstands, a lake-side theatre, puppet show facilities, disabled toilets, deckchairs and London Zoo.
Food can be found at the Queen Mary's Garden Cafe, the Honest Sausage, The Boathouse and the Regents Park Tennis Centre Cafe.
An extremely wide range of sports are available to play in the park. There are tennis and netball courts, an athletics track, cricket, rounders, softball, football, hockey and rugby pitches too. There are three childrens playgrounds and boating on the main lake.
The Regents Park Tennis Centre is located by York Bridge and boasts excellent facilities as well as coaching courses. There is also the Regents Park Golf and Tennis School on the north side of the park. Naturally this venue has tennis courts, but it also boasts a golf practice and coaching centre that includes video analysis facilities, a small pro shop and more.
