The skating was fun - if you want to be surrounded by 18 year old girls and hen parties. Most of it was pretty good humoured but be prepared for the inevitably completely hammered people.
The music was good fun although it was pretty hot in there.
This was all on the plus side of things. The staff were rude and aggressive without prompt. Bearing in mind most people were hammered, we were the most sober and probably the oldest group in there. The staff were rude to us from the door to the skating to the time we left, for example shouting at me for asking for my size of skate before handing my shoes over (?!), man-handling us away from the edge of the skate area as we were holding drinks, telling us off for removing our skates in the 'wrong' area (it's crammed in there, there is not enough space), and finally shouting at my friend's mum for having a knife to cut his birthday cake with. Sure, we all have to suffer ridiculous health and safety rules but they can always be enforced with a smile. Not impressed at all.
i have to admit that as someone with a few years under his belt(38) I was in two minds about being invited down to the Rollerdisco to celebrate a friends birthday. In the end I was pleasantly surprised not only were the staff friendly and helpful but the fellow customers seemed to have the friendliest vibe about them. Drinks weren't exactly cheap but then Rollerdisco is a nightclub after all so what did I expect, £4 for beer is pretty standard in London these days.
It is definitely a good place to go for a totally different experience, to celebrate an event with friends or just to get away from the treadmill of bars booze etc. At the very least you will have more than a few laughs :-))
They mixed up my jacket and many other peoples' before me.
What makes me so cross is not that I could not retrieve my jacket, but that I got the most arrogant, aggressive, uninterested, not-my-problem attitude from surly unhelpful and incompetent staff.
They refused to present a solution. This place should not be allowed to continue with such a pathetic attitude toward returning their patron's belongings.
Too small, too expensive, too crowded. Man in the cloak room and behind the bar too rude (wanted to charge me twice for getting something out of my bag already paid for in the cloak room - er what's that about?)
On the upside, Thursday nights the music ain't bad, but they deffo need a bigger venue and most of the staff are ok except for Mr Napoleon Complex (I guess the saying goes "Those that can't - Bitch")
i enjoyed the roller disco, although the music was a bit hit and miss, and i didn't get any trouble from bellends, maybe i'm just in my own little world and it all washed over me. the cost was a bit pricey but it was a giggle none the less.
I went along to the Skate Bitch night more hype than substance I'm afraid.Rubbish music the Djs were defo not skate Djs.It's a bit different from normal club Djing when playing for skaters.Entrance fee is way Too expensive.Drinks way over the top on prices.I will have to check out one of the other Roller discos next time. For a good clubby atmosphere.
I went there last night for a friends 18th and was a little aprehensive as I have never roller skated before. Once paying the £12.50 entrance fee (with skates) I managed to roll my way to the floor where fortunately for me there were poles running the edge of the roller skating floor. After 30mins of me pulling myself along (I felt so cool) an instructor came over and helped me to skate ahah, so by the end of the night I was a pro. I kid but they were really helpful. Definatly would go back there again. However, only about 2% of the people were not in neon/80s outfits, but dressing up just makes it more fun right?!
I went to The Renaissance Rooms one night only to be horrified and faced with a load of scantily clad girls in huge furry boots, belts for skirts, cartoon character bags and ridiculous make up. I think it must have been a techno night at The Renaissance Rooms?
