Where
More London (next to City Hall)
London is in the midst of pop up fever. You may have already come across one of the many temporary bars, pubs, restaurants or shops that have randomly sprung up across the capital. The latest one is KiosKiosk at More London, which is a temporary shop that's one step up from a market stall. It was launched by the mayor, Boris Johnson, and fashion designer, Wayne Hemmingway.
Bright Sparks
Even though there are plans for rent free pop up shops throughout central London, this one, called KiosKiosk, is somewhat unique. It offers you the chance to go and see loads of different bright young sparks selling goods that range from cool clothes and jewellery to furniture and ceramics. The best part is that the up and coming entrepreneurs selling their creations don’t have to pay sky-high rents for the privilege.
KiosKiosk
You will find KiosKiosk at More London, which is situated right next to City Hall. The purpose-built kiosk will be home to an intriguing array of designers and entrepreneurs, all of whom will get a couple of days each to sell their stuff. If all goes to plan this will be the first of many rent free pop up shops to hit the streets.
Smart Design
Although the creatives taking part in this scheme will benefit from selling their goods rent free, pop up shops in London do not always have as much thought put into their design as this one. It has been constructed as part of the Design Museum’s Super Contemporary Exhibition. Not only is it providing free retail space, it is also solar powered which helps to reinforce the point that good design and ecologically-friendly constructions don’t have to be mutually exclusive.
Cool Creations
Like to rock fashion that no one else is wearing? If you are the sort of person that likes to find new and undiscovered fashion designers, or cool underground brands before they become huge names then rent free pop up shops could be the answer. Wayne Hemmingway actually started out selling his Red or Dead designs in small start-up units in Camden and Kensington Markets, so for your chance to pick up a one-off from an emerging fashion talent, head down to the KiosKiosk, and get in there first before rent free pop up shops appear across London and everyone gets in on the act.
KiosKiosk is open everyday from 10am and will close between 6pm-10pm. For more info on specific events, times and what’s being sold at KiosKiosk, click on the link below.
