The Richard Wilson 20:50 installation has been reinstalled at the Saatchi Gallery, Duke of York's, having been removed from its previous homes at County Hall. An stunning, maleable installation that creates new and intriguing perspectives at each new venue it resides in, the Richard Wilson 20:50 installation is a truly unique piece of art.
Richard Wilson 20:50
An installation made from sump oil and steel the artwork is now back on display at the Saatchi Gallery having been deconstructed and reassembled in a new format. This is not the first time it has moved home, as was transported from the Boundary Road venue and transformed into it's County Hall version in 2003, having originally been created in 1991.
Reflections in oil
In this incarnation the artwork takes up an entire space at the gallery, filled up with recycled engine oil or sump oil. Creating planes of infinitely smooth reflections, the Richard Wilson 20:50 installation also includes a walkway that invites visitors in, so that they can experience the bizarre reflective nature of the work from all sides. With its seemingly Tardis like qualities of endless space and light, the oil fills the gallery seems while appearing to expand and contract at the same time, giving the viewer a very peculiar experience.
World renwoned sculptor
Richard Wilson is famous for being one of Britain's best known sculptors, and this installation is just one of many that demonstrate his interest in architecture, engineering and monumental works. He has been nominated for the Turner Prize twice and has represented Britain in the Sydney Sao Paulo and Venice Biennials, and the Yokohama Triennial. Having held exhibitions all over the world for the past 30 years, the Richard Wilson 20:50 installation remains a firm favourite with art fans in London and beyond.
The Richard Wilson 20:50 installation is on show at the Saatchi Gallery from 7th January 2010 and is a permanent exhibition.
