Rime of the Ancient Mariner at Southbank Centre

Taking place as part of the Imagine children's literature festival, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner at Southbank Centre is a special adaptation of the famous and epic poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Adapted from the outdoors production that took place over the summer of 2009, the show is the result of a collaboration between the Southbank Centre and Young Vic.

Retelling the classic ghostly story by Coleridge, The Wedding or the Rime of the Ancient Mariner at Southbank Centre will be a special performance as part of the Imagine festival. With an original musical score by artist in residence Bellowhead and starring the voices of a community choir made up of children, teenagers and adults, the production should be an impressive spectacle infused with poetry and drama.

The story
Featuring sea monsters from the deep, haunted ships, eerie seascapes and ghostly seamen, The Wedding or The Rime of the Ancient Mariner at Southbank Centre tells the story of the Mariner and the fatal consequences of his careless killing of an albatross. The performances at the Queen Elizabeth Hall are part the Imagine children's literature festival series of events, which take place throughout the Southbank Centre.

The Rime of the Ancient Mariner at Southbank Centre performances take place from Saturday 27th February - Monday 1st March 2010. Tickets for the cost £8.00 for adults and £4.00 for kids.
