A photographic exhibition of the River Thames exhibition at Tower Bridge Museum takes place over the summer, and invites visitors to travel the length of the famous river in just 200 feet. Taking you from the seemingly insignificant source to the rushing mouth of the Thames Estuary, the exhibition includes several stunning pictures of the Thames at various points along its course.
River Thames exhibition at Tower Bridge
30 large scale photos are included in the River Thames exhibition, making for an amazing collection of images. Taking in the significant towns, villages and landmarks along the way, the exhibition is a chance for those who are familiar with the sights and sounds of the Thames in London, to see how the river looks further afield.
From beginning to end
Travelling the entire length of the river from the Thames Head near Cirencester to the massive rush of water that is the Thames Estuary with its imposing WWII Maunsell Sea Forts, the River Thames exhibition at Tower Bridge invites visitors to take a photographic journey along the course of the river, taking in villages like of Lechdale where the statue of Old Father Thames resides and Oxford, famous for its dreaming spires and the ever popular punting on the river. Other locations featured in the photos include Mapledurham where Mr Toad lives, and Henley, which is renowned across the world for its annual regatta.
Exhibition highlights
Two of the most stunning pictures on show in the exhibition are no doubt Countryside by Adrian Warren, whose breathtaking picture of the Thames shows it flowing through the green English countryside, and Estuary View by Dae Sasitorn, which depicts the river opening out into the sea with boats seemingly small in comparison with the vast breadth of the water.
Flowing to London
As the river widens and deepens on its way into and out of the capital, the photos on show in the River Thames exhibition at Tower Bridge demonstrate the power and the speed of the flowing water. Amazing photos of the size and stature of the buildings that the Thames supports in London encapsulate the importance of the water source for commercial reasons and the way in which it has been a focal point for Londoners for centuries. Visitors will be fascinated to see the changing role of the river from the photos of the working docks to Canary Wharf, and the vast scale it expands one mile wide as it heads towards the mouth and out to sea.
The River Thames exhibition at Tower Bridge Exhibition takes place from Wednesday 30th June - 28th September 2010. Tickets are £7.00 or £5.00 for concessions. Entrance for children costs £3.00. Ticket prices include entry to the Tower Bridge Exhibition itself.
