Catch the world's first robotic barman at Selfridges for just four days in July as Mr Asahi invites you over for a drink or two. Making his debut appearance at the Oxford Street branch of Selfridges, the robotic barman pops in to pour a beer or two before heading off on his UK tour.

The world's first bespoke robotic barman has been made using both animatronics and robotics and has set up residence at Selfridges London to show off his speedy bar serving skills. Sure to attract a bigger crowd than Tom Cruise in Cocktail, the robotic barman at Selfridges is happy to crack open a few beers and listen to you tell him about your hard day at the office.

While the average punter has to wait for 15 minutes to be served at a bar, Mr Asahi can get the job done in just two, thereby saving you 13 minutes to chat up that attractive woman at the end of the bar, or catch up with the office gossip with the man from accounts. Having been in training fror 6 months before hitting the bright lights of the big city, the robotic barman at Selfridges can even smile at your requests and give you simple, polite replies.

Mr Asahi is named after the Japanese beer that he has been made to pour, but is capable of serving ice cold draught pints or halves, and can also remove the tops from beer bottles. Although Asahi is Japanese, the super dry beer is actually brewed in Kent under the licence of Shepherd Neame, Britain's oldest brewery.

Given that the robotic barman at Selfridges is Japanese in design, you may have thought that he was made in the country renowned for its great leaps in technological advancement, but only his arms were actually made on Japanese soil. His bespoke bottle opening hands were made in Aylebury, and these help Mr Asahi hold different shaped glasses. His head, which follows the movements of his hands as he works, and torso were constructed in Leicester, and all in all he weighs one ton.

Mr Asahi is sure to be popular with beer drinkers and bar goers all over the country, but lucky London get him first. After being the first ever robotic barman at Selfridges in the capital, he then jets off around the UK to Selfridges Manchester and Birmingham, and then takes in bars and clubs in Nottingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle and Leeds.

If you would like to see Mr Asahi, the world's first robotic barman at Selfridges Oxford Street, he will be in residence from Wednesday 2nd July to Saturday 5th July 2008. To see what Mr Asahi looks like, click on the link below.
