Rummikub Championships at Hamleys

The UK Rummikub Championships at Hamleys takes place in September at what promises to be a seriously intense day of extreme Rummikub action, sponsored by Tomy. Show some support for some of the best players in the country and see who will be crowned UK Rummikub champion for 2006.

Battling for the title
Hamleys will be centre stage for a day of fierce Rummikub competition with a number of seasoned players going head to head, tile for tile, for the championship title. A Rummikub bus has been touring the UK throughout August looking for the best players in a series of regional heats and now that the cream of the crop have been found, it’s time to decide on the ultimate Rummikub champion.

A history of Rummikub
Originally invented by Ephraim Hertzano in the early 1930s Rummikub has become one of the most popular board games in history. In the Rummikub Championships at Hamleys old fans and newcomers alike can celebrate the game and see who has what it takes to win.

Play the game
The rules are simple. Players take 14 numbered tiles and the aim is to get rid of them as fast as possible by creating runs but tiles can be taken and lost from other players, adding an extra element of strategy. Players of all ages can compete against one another in an easy to learn game that takes a lifetime to master.

Representing the UK
The overall winner of the Rummikub Championships at Hamleys will go on to represent the UK at the World Championships in the Netherlands, pitting their skills against the best Rummikub players in the world. Hamleys will be bubbling with excitement as the UK’s finest go tile for tile to decide who goes on to the world stage. Over 30 countries will be taking part in the tournament, which is taking place for the sixth year in 2006.

Have a go at Hamleys
Expert players will be on hand at Hamleys to guide novice Rummikub players through their first games, in a lively, vibrant atmosphere. Though it may be too late to go in for a chance to play in the actual contest, there will be ample opportunity to have a game or two on the day.

The Tomy Rummikub Championships takes place at Hamleys, Regent Street, on Sunday 24th September 2006. The tournament begins at 12pm in the Official Playing Area, located in Hamleys restaurant. The event is free to attend.

Information on the 2007 event will be available shortly. Check back soon for more details.
