Run to the Beat is the new London half marathon that has its second outing in September 2009. With thousands of eager runners in the city eager to take part in this special event, you can be sure that Run to the Beat is fast becoming another of London's most prestigious sporting events.

Get motivated
With a course designed to help keep runners motivated and focused on completely the run, the course has been set with various stations at which live music will be played. Music is well known to be a great motivational tool at the gym or when doing any kind of repetitive sport, and so inspirational tunes and beats will play a key part in a London half marathon.

Run around Greenwich
The course starts and finishes at the O2 Arena and takes the runners all the way around Greenwich. Lasting 13 miles, and taking in 16 different musical stations along the way, Run to the Beat is sure to be a great event for both runners and music lovers. Even if you don't fancy pulling on your trainers, you can always head to one of the live music points and enjoy the beats as you watch the runners pound the pavement.

Improve your time
Research by the School of Sport at the Brunel University has shown that running or exercising to music can improve individual performance by up to 20 percent. By using music in the Run to the Beat half marathon, the tempo and rhythm could keep the athletes going and even perk them up when they are flagging.

Scientific research
The music for Run to the Beat has been chosen by Dr Karageorghis from the School of Sport and is specially catered for the course itself. The half marathon music is contoured to the physiological demands of the ground being covered, thereby helping keep motivation up for the runners when and where they need it most.

Run for charity
Leukaemia Research is the event's official charity and so runners can have the chance to not just run on their own but as part of the Banana Army to help to raise funds for the fight against blood cancers in the UK. Other charities hoping to raise funds at the event include the NSPCC, Help the Aged, The Anthony Nolan Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support.

And if you want to catch all the action from the ringside, then the race route for Run to the Beat looks like this:
