The second annual Maslenitsa Russian festival at Potters Fields London gets off to a flying start with a wealth of free entertainment for the whole family. A Maslenitsa festival traditionally welcomes in the Russian spring, and now Londoners can join in with all the fun and celebrations too.

Russian spring festival
If you've been suffering from the winter blues and are looking forward to longer, brighter and warmer days, then the Russian festival at Potters Fields event London is the perfect way to celebrate the approach of spring. This free festival in the well loved park along the Thames features live music, games and unusual performances inspired by traditional Russian culture that should be a visual treat for young and old alike.

Live music
Starting at 1pm, the Maslenitsa Russian festival includes music from modern folk groups as well as pop and rock performers invited from Russia specially for the occasion. Leading Russian groups based in the UK will also be on hand to add some authentic music to the Russian festival at Potters Fields.

London welcomes Russian performers
Traditionally, the Maslenitsa festivals in Russia are organised to encourage people to eat Russian blini pancakes before the beginning of Lent. Speciality Russian foods will be on sale as a demonstration of Russian culture at the Maslenitsa festival in London, with performers encouraging audience participation for a fun and inclusive event.

Fun for the kids
There will be plenty of entertainment designed specially for the little ones on the day, such as theatre and dance performances in the Scoop organised by children's performing arts groups from across the capital. With puppet theatre, traditional folk music and dance throughout the afternoon, the Russian festival at Potters Fields London event should provide ample opportunities for the whole family to celebrate the start of Russian spring.

The Maslenitsa Russian festival at Potters Fields by London Bridge runs from 1pm - 6pm, Sunday 7th February 2010. Admission is free.
