The Salisbury is a grand, resplendent and sports free Victorian pub serving enticing British food and drink in the heart of the West End.

The Venue
The pub is wonderfully ornate with original features, elaborately-patterned carpets and spectacular mirrored walls - perhaps a tad overindulgent, but nonetheless extremely popular with Londoners and tourists alike. This is a big venue - despite the feeling of intimacy projected via the dark interior colours - so there are plenty of seating areas to choose from.

The Atmosphere
The Salisbury’s location means that lunchtimes and evenings see the place packed out daily. You will find tourists here but avoiding the establishment for this reason alone is a mistake. The mix of clientele is healthy and the bar staff are more than affable and amenable. The juke box plays a selection of pop classics from the 1950s to the 1980s eliciting both warm responses and groans in equal measure. Being a sports free pub, this is the ideal place to go if you want to avoid the dominant events in the sporting calendar that tend to hijack other popular spots in the capital.

The Food
As well as the usual pub fare such as fish and chips, Aberdeen Angus burger and Ploughman’s lunch, there are a variety of delicious British pies ranging from steak and ale to chicken, stuffing and mushrooms. There are also a generous selection of sausages on offer from the bangers and mash menu including apple and cider, and stilton and mustard.

The Drink
There are plenty of beers, wines and spirits on the drinks menu but the ale connoisseur would be enthused particularly by the number of excellent options on offer including Hook Norton, Bombardier, Deuchars IPA and Wadworth 6x.

The Last Word
Handy for Soho and Covent Garden, The Salisbury is a splendid pub and a perfect setting for a spot of lunch or post-show pint.
