Why you should go
Put together by the fantastic folk at the Sci Fi London film festival who understand just how much you love your films …so much so that you’ll happily spend the night with them. They’ve brought together two different options for fanboys and fangirls of all genres for the Sci Fi London Festival 2012, and each of the sci fi all nighters features several different films so there’ll be no squabbling about which ones you want to watch.
Don’t miss
The ultimate treat for Sci Fi and fantasy fans, the programmes in the sci fi all nighters series features groundbreaking Anime films, science fiction fantasy and much more besides. Better yet, these film marathons are accompanied by DJ sets in the bar, prizes, giveaways and helpings of coffee, energy drinks and ice cream to keep you going throughout the night.
Anime all nighter
Fans of big eyed cartoon babes and girly-looking cartoon boys should book their place for the Anime all nighter, which features flicks such as Bleach 3: Fade to Black and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. This year, you can head to the cinema from 10.30pm with music in the bar and take the chance to draw on the Mangawall, before showings of classic flicks and TV shows that have only rarely been seen at the cinema in this country. Animation for adults, screenings start at 11.30pm.
Mystery Science Theater 3000 all nighter
Also showing the week of the sci fi festival is an all nighter dedicated to the crazy world of MST3K. Featuring a selection of top notch selection of terrible sci films that have been riffed by the MST team, you can see the likes of The Robot vs The Aztec Mummy and The Killer Shrews, this is an all nighter that should take you on an intergalactic journey of hilarious sci fi delights. Screenings start at 11.45pm.
Boris Karloff all nighter
Celebrating the life and career of the genius sci fi actor from the early twentieth century, the Boris Karloff session gives you the chance to see a selection of films that are very rarely seen on the big screen. Classic flicks include The Black Cat, Frankenstein and The Mask of Fu Manchu. Screenings start at 11.50pm.
Dutch Master: Paul Verhoeven
Science fiction master Paul Verhoeven is responsible for some of the greatest futuristic films of the 1990s. At this all nighter session you can see Robocop, Total Recall, Hollow Man and Starship Troopers back to back until dawn. Screenings start at 11.55pm.
Chill out
Where else will you have the chance to watch all night marathons of films (that are pretty much guaranteed never to run on TV, by the way) along with dozens of others that are as mad about sci fi films as you are? That’s right, nowhere. So embrace your obsessive film love and don’t miss these all nighters. Along with all the great sci fi films to keep you up all night, tickets for the sci fi marathons sometimes also include a goodie bag, energy drinks and ice cream, as well as the chance to win excellent prizes.
