Whether you are a fan of opera, country and western or punk, if you love to sing then this is the event for you. The Science of Singing sees explores the way in which we manipulate our vocal chords to sing, gives you the chance to transform your own voice, witness the amazing sight of a beatboxers mouth in action through an ultrasound and get singing lessons from Fame Academy tutors.

Five evenings of amazing science look at the hows and whys of singing and ask important questions about the significance of all our own musical equipment. The Dana Centre opens its doors to all those who want to understand the Science of Singing and invites them in for a series of sing a long events to help.

Starting on the 3rd July David and Carrie Grant of X Factor fame give you the chance to seriously improve your singing ability. Explaining the importance of the larynx and the diaphragm and how this affects the quality of the voice, visitors will also be able to see the vocal chords in action from the inside as specialist voice trainer Jeremy Fisher sings with an endoscope down his throat!

Thursday 5th July is the day to get to Dana if you want to become a beatboxer. Several beatboxers are set to demonstrate their skills live to demonstrate how they manipulate their vocal chords to producer the amazing sounds. Take part in the beatboxing workshop and then be amazed as one of the world's finest beatboxers, Shlomo, takes to the stage.

Need to keep your voice fit? Join the Voice Gym on Thursday 12th July. An opera singer and a laryngologist tell you the healthiest ways to give your voice a workout. Plus, a live link to Utah gives you the chance to see scientists in America growing vocal chord cells and feeding them with sound waves.

Once you and your voice are match fit, you can learn to sing in different styles. The Science of Singing voice coach gives you the chance to manipulate your vocal anatomy and try out new ways of extending your range of singing styles, before getting to mix your voice electronically in the sound studio. This event takes place on Tuesday 17th July.

Just before the fat lady sings, the last night of the Science of Sining series is the Tone Deaf Tune In on Wednesday 25th July. This is a chance to see if you are really tone deaf or just a bad singer. Amusia, the inability to process complex musical sounds is very rare, so the Dana Centre's voice coach is giving everyone the chance for a little help with breathing and pitch exercises.
