A very special secret exhibition at Wallace Collection is on show for spring 2010 that has been curated by the children of a local primary school. Working with the Wallace Collection staff, the kids from St Vincent's Catholic Primary have chosen a selection of objects with a hidden secret from the collection for this unusual exhibition.

Shh its a secret exhibition
Wallace Collection is home to many treasures that have been on show to visitors over the years, but now they have unearthed a unique selection of art and objects that all have a secret. Including paintings, armour, ceramics and furniture, the secret exhibition at Wallace Collection includes some of their most enigmatic pieces that are sure to delight and intrigue.

Doing it for the kids
Most child friendly exhibitions attempt to appeal to kids, but this one is certain to be a hit with the nippers as the articles on show have been chosen by them. Unravelling the mysteries of some enchanting pieces, the children have picked out unusual and secretive articles such as a gold snuffbox which conceals two miniature portraits of Voltaire and his lover behind a hidden slide. Working with the Wallace Collection staff for one day a year, the kids have been involved with every aspect of the secret exhibition, including choosing objects and themes, making this a definite highlight for half term visits.

Secret highlights
Many of the objects on display in the secret exhibition at Wallace Collection contain hidden panels and secret sliding sections that when open reveal the article's real function. An oak desk that features dummy book spines and a secret drawer fascinated the children involved in curating the show, as did a picture entitled The Listening Housewife who sits with her finger to her lips in the classic shh its a secret pose. Fans of mystery will also be intrigued to learn how Madame de Serilly escaped the guillotine, and what the initials on an elaborate guantlet stand for.

Shh its a secret exhibition at Wallace Collection takes place from 10am - 5pm, Thursday 4th February - Sunday 28th March 2010.
