Royal Observatory Greenwich
See the new planetarium show Secrets of the Sun at Royal Observatory and find out more about our closest star. Kids and popular science fans of all ages are bound to get something out of the informative and entertaining show, which takes place at the only public planetarium in London, located in Greenwich.
Planetarium show
Featuring real life, spectacular images taken from sun orbiting satellites, Secrets of the Sun at Royal Observatory takes you on a journey into space and around the star whose warmth and light makes life on planet Earth possible. The images in the show reveal the ever changing face of the Sun, and reveal more about the sunspots and intense magnetic fields that create a turbulent atmosphere near the Sun's surface.
Life inside a star
As well as giving an insight into the magnificent amounts of energy that our star spews out across the solar system, Secrets of the Sun at Royal Observatory also explores the inner workings of the Sun. The planetarium show takes you on a journey to the Sun's core, where temperatures reach a staggering 16 million degrees Celsius and hydrogen atoms fuse into helium.
Death of the Sun
The Secrets of the Sun at Royal Observatory show ends with a look at the Sun's demise, which is predicted to take place in five billion years time. After the show, astronomers working at the Royal Observatory will be on hand to answer any questions about the Sun, or about outer space in general.
Secrets of the Sun at Royal Observatory is an ongoing planetarium show that starts from Saturday 6th February 2010.
Adult tickets for the show cost £6.00, and children and concessions cost £4.00. A family ticket costs £16.00. For more information on screening times and to make a booking, click on the link below.
