A variety of events are taking place for Shakespeares birthday at the Globe Theatre, with plenty of fun for both kids and family. Londoners can commemorate the life of the legendary playwright in a lively series of events.

Birthday festivities
The main day of celebrations for Shakespeare's birthday takes place on Sunday 18th April - and it's absolutely free. From 12pm to 4pm there'll be an open day, so come along and take part in sonnet workshops and all the other fun, free events.

Theatrical fun at the Globe Theatre
Before the main open day you can take a walking tour of Shakespeare's London from Westminster Abbey or Shoreditch and be serenaded with sonnets all the while. To book tickets for the walks on Saturday 17th April, call 020 7401 9919. On Sunday 18th April, live sonnet recitals will give you a taste of The Bard's beautiful way with words, and there'll be plenty of interactive workshops and activities to keep the kids happy too.

Macbeth
The Globe Theatre season kicks off on the Friday 23rd April 2010, and this year Macbeth opens on Shakespeare's actual birthday. So if your free visit to the Globe tickles your fancy, you can always come back for a night of full on drama with a live production of one of the Bard's best plays. Join a workshop
Special workshops in Shakespearean poetry and prose will be taking place throughout the day led by a line up of Globe actors. Children and adults can celebrate in the spirit of Shakespeare all day with interactive sessions to unlock the drama and excitement of Shakespeare and The Globe.

St Georges Day 2010
Shakespeare’s birthday celebrations at the Globe are taking place as part of St Georges Day in London. The crowds will be out in force for traditional festivities, celebrating English heritage and the legacy of the Bard himself. Festivities for Shakespeare’s birthday are taking place at the Globe Theatre, South Bank, from 12pm - 4pm, Sunday 18th April 2010.
