Shakespeares Globe Midnight Matinees

Theatre-loving night owls get ready for Shakespeares Globe Midnight Matinees as the iconic theatre hosts two special midnight showings of Macbeth and The Merry Wives of Windsor under the stars in the open air auditorium. The Shakespeares Globe Midnight Matinees promise performances of two of Shakespeare’s best loved tales, followed by breakfast as the sun rises over the Thames.

Midnight productions
The Shakespeares Globe Midnight Matinees will take place as part of the Shakespeares Globe season of contemporary and classic plays that sees the likes of Henry VIII, Henry V, Anne Boleyn and Bedlam take to the open air theatre stage. The Shakespeares Globe Midnight Matinees will see two of the season’s plays, Macbeth and The Merry Wives of Windsor performed at midnight, offering audiences the opportunity to see two of Shakespeare’s best-loved plays in a magical, atmospheric and romantic new way.

Macbeth and The Merry Wives of Windsor
The two productions that have been chosen for the Midnight Matinees at Shakespeares Globe are two of the Bard’s most enduring tales. Directed by Lucy Bailey, Macbeth stars acclaimed actor Elliot Cowan in the lead, supported by some of the biggest names in Shakespearean theatre. The Merry Wives of Windsor sees Christopher Luscombe revive the sensational 2008 production featuring the same cast that had a raft of five star reviews from even the harshest national critics.

Midnight Matinees breakfasts
Once audiences have enjoyed the Midnight Matinees at Shakespeares Globe they will be able to enjoy breakfast, as the Shakespeares Globe Bar and Brasserie cook up some Midnight Madness to complement the plays. The buffet style menu is locally sourced from seasonal produce, offering theatre-goers the chance to enjoy a great breakfast after seeing one of Shakespeare’s great plays.

Shakespeares Globe Midnight Matinees take place at Shakespeares Globe during the summer season. The Macbeth Midnight Matinee will take place at midnight on Friday 4th June 2010.
