Using the best beatboxing talent as part of a modern classical musical work, the Shlomo beatbox concert at Southbank Centre is a specially commissioned work and one of the highlights of the art centre's 2010 programme.
Concerto for Shlomo and an Orchestra
Taking place at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Shlomo beatbox concert at Southbank Centre stars artist in residence Shlomo and a host of top beatboxers and musical talent. Shlomo has worked with composer Anna Meredith to create the Concerto for the Beatboxer and the Orchestra to combine contemporary classical work with beatboxing, recognising the human voice as a musical instrument in its own right.
Beatboxers
Other beatbox artists contributing their voices to the Shlomo beatbox concert at Southbank Centre include current World Female Champion Bellatrix and former UK Champion MC Zani. In total, six of the UK's leading beatboxers are performing at the concert.
Classical music
The beatboxers are adding their voices to the sounds created from a specially selected 20 piece orchestra, made up of all of the Southbank Centre's resident orchestras. Members of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra, London Sinfonietta and Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment are all performing at the Shlomo beatboxer concert at Southbank Centre, as well as acclaimed cellist Oliver Coates.
Concert for kids
The Beatbox and Orchestra concerto has its world premiere at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on Friday 19th February, and the day after there's a special version of the work produced for kids. Taking place as part of the Imagine Children's Festival, the family friendly concert gives members of the audience the chance to try beatboxing with Shlomo.
The Shlomo beatbox concert at Southbank Centre starts at 7.30pm, Friday 19th February 2010, with the concert for kids taking place from 11am on Saturday 20th February 2010. The children's concert is suitable for those aged six and over.
Tickets for the world premiere cost £20.00, while the tickets for the children's concert cost £9.00. For further information and to book tickets for the concerts, call 0844 847 9910.
