When
Sunday 31st August 2008
Where
Shoreditch, Luke Street and Leonard Street
The inaugural Shoreditch Grand Prix takes place on the very last Sunday of August 2008 and will see 30 teams of brave, talented and hardy individuals race around a track on children's tricycles in an attempt to bring home the winners trophy. With teams raising money for charity in order to qualify, the Shoreditch Grand Prix is out to prove that you can be concientious and have fun at the same time.
Shoreditch Grand Prix 2008
Highlighting the issues of congestion and pollution in London, the Shoreditch Grand Prix brings the excitement and glamour of professional motor racing and the comedy nature of seeing grownups on pedal cars going hell for leather down the streets of Shoreditch together into one spectacular event.
Pedal car races
The rules for the competition are very simple: 30 teams of racers under take 5 laps of the course, and the fastest wins. In order to qualify however, you and two of your mates must raise as much money for your selected charitable cause as possible. The 30 teams who have raised the most cash will then take place in the Shoreditch Grand Prix and prove that they have what it takes to push the pedal to the, er, road beneath them, and get themselves around the track in the fastest possible time.
Grand Prix refreshments
Entry is free for spectators too, so if you don't manage to qualify, or if you feel that high speed tricycle racing is not for you, there will be plenty of action to keep you entertained on the day. Along with the amazing Grand Prix race, there will also be music courtesy of Last FM, and free refreshments from Builders Tea and Mozzo Coffee. Local Shoreditch restaurants will be offering Grand Prix themed menus to keep in with theme, so no doubt you will be swept up on the excitement and high speed thrills of it all.
Certain to be a fantastically unusual day out for all concerned, the Shoreditch Grand Prix is set to become another great fixture on the London sporting calendar.
Please note that entrants in the Shoreditch Grand Prix must be over 18. Teams are restricted to three people only, and tricycles will be supplied by the organisers on the day. For more information or to register to take part click on the link below. Registration closed on Friday 15th August 2008.
