Sickboy Show London
With a history of rejecting corporate sponsorship in order to stay close to his street art roots, Sickboy stands out from the crowd with his playful satire and garish colours. Heaven and Earth is the newest Sickboy show in London that exhibits work from the artist who emerged triumphant from the edgy Bristol graffiti scene.
Heaven and Earth
The Heaven and Earth Sickboy show takes its inspiration from his usual characteristically symbolic imagination. He has created a series of earthly sins and heavenly fantasies, that include collaborations from 12 other fellow street artists. Centred around a whole host of orginal artworks that plunge the depths of his dark subconscious and take inspiration from the likes of Renaissance paintings, semiotics and symbolism, the Sickboy show London event is a subversion of the traditional confessional exhibition, where the artist bares his soul for the public to examine.
Four installations
Rounding off the religious themed exhibition, are four major installations which will no doubt dominate the Sickboy show. London urban art fans will be keen to take a seat in the walk in confessional booth (complete with resident pastor during the opening), and an installation which sees the likes of D*Face, Eine, Word to Mother and various other street artists joining Sickboy on his cathartic journey through the art world in a special collaborative element of the show.
Temple
Londoners are used to seeing pieces of urban and graffiti art all over the streets of the capital, so it should come as no suprise that even if you haven't heard of Sickboy, you will recognise some of his work. Along with the infamous Banksy works that dot the undergrounds and buildings in certain parts of the city, you may also have seen Sickboy's signature logo, The Temple, which he uses instead of a tag. Depicted in vivid red and yellow, The Temple is located on various walls and wheelie bins, and will be part of the Sickboy Show in London too.
Sickboy art for all
The paintings, prints and installations in the Sickboy show in London represent a new body of work and fresh approach to themes that will be of interest to street art fans with a taste for the arcane. But they also give the public the chance to have their own imaginative pieces included in the artwork by Sickboy, who comes from the Bristol school of graffiti, much famed for producing the likes of Banksy and Inkie. Rather than bringing his art to the masses he is inviting, the masses to bring their art to him, with the chance to contribute their very own confessions, which will all become part of the Confess installation.
The Heaven and Earth Sickboy show London exhibition takes place at Old Truman Brewery from 4th November - 6th November 2011.
