For the fourth year in a row Size + Matter at Southbank Centre makes a return for the London Design Festival. Featuring two full scale installation pieces located on the Thames riverbank outside the Royal Festival Hall, these innovative designs are sure to attract plenty of public attention.

Size + Matter at Southbank Centre
Over 763,00 people visited the 2009 Size + Matter at Southbank Centre which featured installations by Marc Newson and Shigeru Ban. Certain to be just as popular with art and design loving festival goers, this year's work comes from the renowned architect David Chipperfield, and UK designer Paul Cocksedge.

Drop
The installation from Paul Cocksedge takes the form of enormous discs of stainless steel that have been curved as if dropped from a great height. Concieved as coins fallen from a giant's pocket, the discs have buckled on impact, producing distorted reflections in their polished surfaces. Designed to engage attention and maximise ineraction with the viewing public at Size + Matter at Southbank Centre, all the three metre high discs are highly magnetised allowing visitors to stick spare coppers onto the installation, thereby transforming their look completely.

The Space in Between
The second installation on show for Size + Matter at Southbank Centre is The Space in Between, featuring a cityscape of nine modular blocks ranging from just under three metres to nearly six metres high. A hidden light source is located in at the base of each individual block which transforms the appearance of the towers from solid during the day to translucent and glowing at night. Covering 175 square metres, the installation works as both a large scale artwork and a miniature cityscape where visitors can wander in and around.

The 2010 Size + Matter at Southbank Centre takes place from Saturday 18th September - Sunday 17th October 2010 as part of London Design Festival. Entrance is free.
