The Skin and Bones exhibition is the first of its kind to grace London, and is also the very first exhibition to be held in the new Embankment Galleries at Somerset House. Examining the relationship between buildings and clothing, Skin and Bones covers the last 25 years of the fashion industry's ever closer relationship with the structural world of architecture.

Looking literally at the skin and bones of structures in the world of fashion and building design, the exhibition sheds light on how often those worlds collide.

Fashion and architecture are combining even more these days as designers aim to create ever more structural and architecturally inspired clothing. Creating unusual and often bizarre unions, the areas of building materials and design combine with the likes of high couture to produce stunning catwalk creations that are then flagged up in every fashion magazine going.

In the Skin and Bones exhibition you can see just how both designers and architects have benefited from this interaction and the kinds of materials that are being used in their creations. Over 50 world renowned architects and designers have provided examples for the Skin and Bones exhibition, from the likes of Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood, to Zaha Hadid and Future Systems. Fashion buildings and constructed garments are on display to the public to illustrate the ways in which new technologies and sharing of design ideas has led to these surprising creations being built.

Over 200 works that include amazing catwalk garments, 3D architectural models and film footage are all on display in the Skin and Bones exhibition. Not only are the exhibits in Skin and Bones stunning pieces of art in their own right, they also demonstrate how the similar properties of clothing and buildings relate to one another. Providing shelter and warmth, and promoting a sense of individuality are both aims of the designer and the architect.

Skin and Bones is the inaugural exhibition at Embankment Galleries, Somerset House and comes to London from Los Angeles and Tokyo. If you would like to book tickets for the Skin and Bones exhibition, click on the Buy Tickets button below for more information.
