If you manage to push past the hordes of people that flood Leicester Square night after night you might come across one of Leicester Square’s most prominent clubs.

The Venue
Situated just around the corner from Leicester Square tube, Sound London is something of a rarity in Central London, being one of the largest clubs in the area. Spread across five floors, you can choose to spend your evening in the brightly lit Tomato Bar with red leather upholstery imported from Italy and cool ‘70s style tables or the fourth floor Balcony Bar with its very own, um, balcony, cocktail bar and neon lights designed in such a way that they seem to almost drip from the ceiling.

One of the most popular areas is the Ivory Room, which is usually packed. From here you can witness the London skyline whilst dancing. This floor is more relaxed than the others and is more like a VIP area, although it is separate from the mezzanine VIP space, roped off from the rest of the club.

The Atmosphere
If diversity in a crowd is what you want then Sound London certainly delivers. You will see all sorts of people at this club, reflective of the eclectic Leicester Square rabble, although it’s likely that the ratio of women will exceed that of men. The club is usually swarming with dancers by about 10pm, and the atmosphere is pretty laid back. Like many venues in the area, pretension isn’t high on the agenda here.

The Music
The music at Sound London is diverse and ranges from funky house to commercial club tracks and RnB, depending on the night you attend.

Friday nights are one of their most popular with resident DJs DSD and Femi working the crowd with the latest hip hop, RnB and club anthems - it tends to get busy quickly so it’s advisable to arrive early. PoshFunk on Saturdays is also popular with different DJs every week playing the best in funky house and club classics. More unusual nights include their weekly salsa classes on Tuesdays and the Wicked Wednesdays student night.

The Drink
Drinks here aren’t cheap but they’re not extortionate given the central location and there are good drink deals that are worth keeping an eye on. They have a selection of bottled beers such as Corona and a good choice of spirits, utilised in their lengthy cocktail list that includes options like the Jessica Rabbit (Skyy Berry vodka, raspberry, mint, lime, ginger beer and passion fruit; £8.95) and Zombie Army (Bacardi Superior, Bacardi Oro, dark rum, amaretto, lime, pineapple, orgeat; £8.95) alongside the classics. It's worth noting that all cocktails are 2-4-1 in the Ivory Room 5pm-8pm, Monday to Friday.

They also have a half dozen bottles of red and white wine (£17.95-£24.95) and a good selection of sparkling wines and Champagnes (£29.50-£160).

The Last Word
Sound London isn’t the kind of place you want to visit if you hate the West End, but if you’re in the area and are determined to hit the dance floor then its large layout, drink offers and easy-to-digest music policy make it one of the better options.
