I saw Murmurs last night at the South Bank Centre after getting tickets off a discount site. Let me just say that it was discounted for a reason; it was boring.I could EASILY see how all the tricks were being done, there was no tangible storyline, the scenes and acts were dull and repetitive, the scene changes were sloppy and amateur, and the whole play stopped ridiculously abruptly (although I'm glad it did as I was falling asleep in my seat). It was mildly amusing for the first 10 minutes but that's it. The lighting set-up was also poor and bland.Overall it wasn't a good experience. It appeared to be have created by a selection of people with a very limited experience of theatre. I think I'll be sticking to the more permanent and professional productions in the West End from now on.

i really love the slow food festival and am constantly checking to see when it is on, if you like fresh meat, pig on a spit, few beers/cider at riverside some cheese and other lovely food to try this is great, like the freshly cut ham etc aswell...

if your into the food markets and not the handbag shopping this is DEFINATELY worth attending at least once, we really love it...

also a walk up the thames to the millenium wheel isnt far or to the right of the market some great touristy things to do and some more pubs to relax at... wish it was on more...

...there is also a lovely mushroom stand selling great mushroom burgers of all varieties.

Not sure how anyone could be disturbed by such a colourful and entertaining show. The dances were based on myths from Chinese history and two of them were based on what is happening in China at the moment to Falun Gong. I don't find that problematic - in fact it's fascinating, original and unusual. Don't listen to the detractors - go see it and make your own mind up!

I watched this show last night and was utterly disturbed by the contents.
You are lead to believe that it is a show that celebrates the vastness and beauty of Chinese culture, instead what you really get (in your face) is a long and very drawn out propaganda for the cause of Falun Gong. This show is uncomfortable, shoddy, tacky and extremely boring to watch. Even if you are sympathetic to the cause of Falun Gong, at the end of this show you will be put off by the underhanded way they have used the guise of Chinese culture as a channel for furthering their cause. Do not watch this show, you will leave feeling very cheated and angry at what you have been exposed to. In short, you may have felt better if the performances had been entertaining, however, the strong underlying message of Falun Gong ‘evangelism’ takes away any credit to the performers, who may genuinely love the ‘art’ they have been preaching, oh sorry I meant practicing. Avoid if you do not want to be left feeling conned.

Severely disappointed.
The show was marketed to be based on Chinese culture but it was nothing of the sort. It insulted the Chinese culture by basing it on a religion(Falun Gong) formed by a person in 1992 claiming to be from outer space(No the Chinese culture has nothing to do with aliens). The dances were ok but the envangelistical songs were extremely annoying, I cannot believe I paid £40 to be preached at by the scientology of Asia. The brochures mention
nothing about Falun Gong(I wonder why). If you want to learn about Chinese culture, avoid at all costs. There are much better shows around with no hidden agenda.

I went expecting traditional Chinese dancing and dragons: what I got was a propaganda show about a modern religious movement called Falun Gong. The show was very amateurish in presentation and content, akin to watching a community theatre performance. A dozen or so "dances" were interspersed by ear splittingly awful faux-operatic singers in ballgowns, who sang hymns praising Falun Gong and how it had lifted them above life's trials and tribulations. The dancing was modern in style, and extremely repetitive, performed against a projected backdrop of computer screensaver images of China. The political agenda soon became blatantly obvious with a dance themed around Fallon Gong practitioners being tortured and killed by prison guards with giant communist hammer and sickles on the backs of their uniforms, and another featuring a child holding up a banner bearing the Falun Gong slogan, being beaten up by the same guards while playing in a park with her mother. The dragons never materialised, neither did the dancers, costumes or backdrops which appeared on the flyer. I have nothing against political protest or the religion of Falun Gong, but I do object to being duped into paying 55 pounds to watch propaganda.

Its been a while since ive been to the theatre but i think the shows good. The costumes are colourful and vibrant and the dancing is like chinese ballet.. the 3 opera singing parts are in chinese with english words on the backdrop.
I found the falun gong section very touching, but I wouldnt say its political? Its just telling the story of whats happening in China these days.
I was in the side seats, I recommend sitting in the main sections for a more head on view.
I watched some clips on youtube for an idea of what I'd see

I went to see last nights show and was really impressed. The singing dancing and colourful outfits were all amazing. I havent been to the theatre for a while but was glad i came to see this. I dont think there was a political agenda to the show. I think the references were in keeping with the traditional beliefs theme and gave a modern slant to it. It was done by the Divine Performing Arts Troupe.
The drums were the best part and the dancing was kind of chinese folk dancing meets ballet.
Ill be checking it out next year
