Take a look behind the scenes of one of London's most popular museums with the Spirit Collection tour at Natural History Museum. Formerly known as the Explore tour, these free guided expeditions around the Darwin Centre's zoology building give a fascinating insight into the museum's collection.

Behind the scenes
With 27 kilometres of shelves storing 22 million specimens, the Darwin Centre's zoology department is an important site of scientific research, as well as an impressive public resource. Go on a free Spirit Collection tour at Natural History Museum and discover hidden treasures not usually on public view, such as the giant squid and specimens collected by Charles Darwin.

Regular tours
Each standard Spirit Collection tour at Natural History Museum lasts for half and hour, although it is also possible to take extended tours of the collection, which last for 50 minutes. The guided tours are free, although you'll need to book up on the day by calling the museum's main information desk at around 10.10am.
