Spoonful of Poison

A self-proclaimed evening of open mic shenanigans with a mischievous swagger, Spoonful of Poison is a free weekly event at The Legion in Old Street. It offers the East End popular pastime of open mic nights but gives it a little twist.

Multi-Discipline Performances
Most open mic nights fall under the same banner. A mix of undiscovered talent and bands you hope will remain undiscovered forever, taking to the stage to strum along to an original tune that does little to capture the imagination. Spoonful of Poison is unique in that artists from all disciplines are encouraged to perform, that includes music, poetry, comedy and ad-hoc or random performances. No two Mondays are the same.

Past Acts
The promise of Spoonful of Poison to showcase a wide range of talent is certainly one that they’ve kept to, as one look at their past guests shows. Acts include comedian Gwilum Argos, singer-songwriter punk poet Ashley Reaks and rhyming ranter Ant the Rant with his own brand of sarcastic observational poetry. There are also 14+ spots open for younger acts to showcase their skills. It’s like an episode of Britain’s Got Talent, only without Simon Cowell’s annoying chatter.

A Legion of Fans
The Legion is a popular Old Street bar that avoids the touristy hordes of stag dos and hen parties that inflict much of the area. A well sized club space offers plenty of room and there’s a fully stocked bar with an above-average selection of drinks. You can expect a cool crowd of Hoxton trendies and cash-savvy Londoners looking for an eclectic night out like Spoonful of Poison.

Spoonful of Poison is held from 7pm-12am every Monday (except Bank Holidays) at The Legion. Entry is free all night.
